Running pace calculator: pace, time and even splits
Calculate pace from a distance and finish time, or explore a finish time from a selected pace. Results include kilometer and mile conversions and even-distance splits.
Choose the question you want to answer
Select Pace from finish time when you know how long a run took. Enter distance, then elapsed hours, minutes and seconds. Select Finish time from pace when you want to explore a scenario. In that mode, enter minutes and seconds per chosen distance unit. Hidden fields are not used in the calculation.
Pace and finish-time formulas
Pace in seconds per unit = total elapsed seconds ÷ distance. Finish time = pace × distance. A 5 km run completed in 30 minutes has a 6:00 per-kilometer pace. At 8:00 per mile, 5 miles takes 40:00. One mile equals 1.609344 km. Calculations retain precision until displayed as whole seconds.
Reading the splits
Each split shows the cumulative elapsed time at that distance, assuming a perfectly even pace. A fractional final distance receives a finish row. For very long distances the table shows the first 50 whole-unit splits and the finish to stay usable. These are arithmetic markers, not predictions about fatigue, terrain or weather.
Elapsed time and moving time differ
Decide which time you want to analyze. Elapsed time includes stops; a watch may separately report moving time. Mixing a moving-time measurement with an elapsed-time goal can be confusing. Use the same convention for comparisons and remember that GPS distance can also vary.
Can this predict my race performance?
No. Multiplying a pace by a distance does not establish that you can sustain it. Conditions, training, pacing strategy and individual circumstances are outside this form. Use a comfortable effort and an appropriate plan rather than chasing a calculated split when it does not feel suitable.
Sources and next steps
The unit conversion follows the NIST Guide for the Use of the International System of Units. WHO physical activity guidance provides public-health context. It does not validate an individual exercise plan. Use the interval timer for a simple clock, or the workout planner to organize a week.
